Don’t Just Survive…Thrive!

I am a 5 year cancer survivor.  I have not only survived, but I made a choice to THRIVE!  I was determined that I was going to do everything I could to see victory come out of my pain.  It was hard.  There were some days that I wanted to give up.  There were many nights that fear tormented me.  There were times when I looked in the mirror and shame tried to shut me down.  But I chose to be a fighter.  I chose to be bolder and braver and to help more people around the world.  Rather than being knocked down, I stood up taller and made my voice louder.  I wrote articles and blogged.  I traveled the world. I made the decision that cancer messed with the wrong woman!

Cancer is a thief.  It not only tries to take our health, it tries to steal our joy and rob us of our peace.  Cancer does not have to define who we are.  We can choose to fight back.  We have to fight every day so that fear doesn’t overwhelm us, grief doesn’t shut us down, and anger doesn’t control us.

Everyday we can choose to have a Nike Attitude: Just Do It!  No matter what we are up against, we can choose to walk through it with our heads held high trusting God to take care of us.  Because we “can do all things through Christ who gives us strength.” (Philippians 4:13)  We can make it through whatever comes our way because we are not alone. Christ is with us and He will strengthen us.

We can make a choice to not be afraid and be like the woman in Proverbs 31 who is “clothed with strength and dignity and laughs without fear of the future!” (Proverbs 31:25)

Our goal should not be to just SURVIVE cancer, but our goal should be to THRIVE!  We can be a person facing the future without fear.  We can walk through this with our head held high knowing that God is with us and He will strengthen us.

I choose to THRIVE. How about you?

You are an inspiration to all of us!

  2. Amen! It’s not always easy and we may have days that are so much worse than others. I’m grateful that Gods faithfulness and grace is not influenced by my feelings but by his promises.
